One cap, endless art
Our StoryA letter from Nordenheim
To anyone who ever settled for a cap,
You know the choice. The cap that fits — the one your hand reaches for — carries artwork someone else picked. The artwork you would actually wear is stitched onto a cap that isn’t worth wearing. One or the other, rarely both.
That isn’t bad luck; it is how caps are made. The front is decided at the factory — printed, embroidered or patched — and the decision is permanent. Change your mind, and the industry has one answer for you: buy another cap.
And even the new one can only offer what cloth can hold. Thread renders a photograph as a cartoon of itself. Rubber prints reduce it to a flat badge. Ink on fabric surrenders its detail to the weave. A whole world of artwork has never made it onto a cap at all — not for lack of wanting, but for lack of a surface that could carry it.
We are a small crew from Sweden with no factory heritage to protect, and we got tired of all of it. So we took the cap and the artwork apart. We put our work into the cap itself — how it is built, how it holds its shape, how it still sits right a year in. The artwork became a plate of stainless steel: the image infused into its coating, part of the steel itself, photo quality edge to edge. It holds on hidden magnets and lifts off as easily as it went on. Nothing bolted, riveted or stitched through the image.
Before the first cap shipped, we wrote down what we were building. It reads like a pledge because it is one:
- We want the front decided by you, not by a factory. Showing what you choose to look at, and changing the day you change.
- We want photo-quality art on durable steel, not low-resolution stitching in cloth. Thread and weave cap the detail; steel carries the image whole.
- We want it held in place, not fastened there for good. Surviving a day of movement, releasing by hand, leaving no mark. That balance is the engineering.
- We want you to own one great cap, not a shelf of them. One cap, many plates; far less made, shipped and thrown away.
Here is the honest part: we are the small name in this fight. No factory empire, no marketing department — just caps, plates, and people who wanted the front to be theirs. If that has ever been you, you are who we built this for. Every Nordenheim cap out on a street corner argues our case.
From the small side of the fight,
The Nordenheim Team
